Experience a basic introduction to independent publishing and authorpreneurship!
In this short two-hour workshop, Perth-based author, editor, and publisher Rebecca Laffar-Smith presents a brief overview of the self-publishing process and the options available for authors to prepare and distribute their creative works directly into the hands of their readers, no middlemen. Take control of your future and understand how being an authorpreneur with a business mindset or artistic ideal can lead to a rewarding career as an independent author/publisher.
This session allows time for Q&A so bring your questions with you!
Suitable for novelists, poets, children’s authors, illustrators, memoirists, and anyone who has dreamed of putting their words and creations into the hands of readers. Learn if self-publishing is the right option for you or if you’re better suited to a traditional publishing route. Understand the steps involved, the hats indie-authors wear, and the reality of being a business author rather than ‘just writing the book’ and leaving everything else up to a traditional publisher.
Rebecca Laffar-Smith is a publisher, children’s author, and novelist. In 2010 she gave up a successful 12-year freelance career to focus on her three loves; family, community, and fiction. She self-published her debut novel, ‘The Flight of Torque’ in June 2014. Later, Rebecca established Aulexic, a small publishing house specialising in books for children with language and literacy difficulties. In May 2015 Aulexic launched the first three titles in the ‘P.I. Penguin’ series. Rebecca also coordinates the Write Along The Highway Writer’s Festival, supporting local writers and bringing industry events and awareness into the community, while continuing to develop an ever growing catalogue of books both for children and adults in a range of genres, including romance, science fiction, and fantasy.
